December 5, 2016 Dear Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Friends: It is with deep regret and great sadness that I report to you the passing of one of the giants of our faculty, Dr. Paul Magelli. Paul died peacefully on Sunday after heroically battling damage to his lungs following his heart surgery this past summer. Paul’s impact on the College of Business and on the lives of all who knew him was immense. He was one of the kindest, warmest, and most loving people ever to walk this earth. His intellect, energy, enthusiasm, and selflessness made him a truly special and gifted leader, scholar, mentor, and friend. He touched every life he came in contact with, treating all people with the same respect and care and kindness, regardless of station in life. One of Paul’s many gifts was his ability to draw out the best in each person he worked with.
We will work with Paul’s family to hold a celebration of his life sometime after the start of the new year. In lieu of flowers, his family intends to establish a scholarship in Paul’s honor. As these plans develop, I will be in touch with you. We will all miss him. Sincerely, Jeffrey R. Brown Josef and Margot Lakonishok Professor of Business and Dean College of Business University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
