Jan Slater is the chief marketing officer for Gies College of Business and professor of advertising in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois. Prior to joining Gies Business, she served as dean of the College of Media and head of the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising. Before coming to Illinois, Slater was an associate professor and the associate director of the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. She joined the academy following a long, successful career as an advertising practitioner, working in private industry, as well as owning her own advertising agency. Slater earned a Ph.D. from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
