Graduates in their caps and gowns celebrate at Memorial Stadium during the commencement ceremony

We are very disappointed to share the news that commencement ceremonies will not take place as scheduled in May at our universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Diplomas will be mailed, and we are exploring possible alternatives to honor the Class of 2020. You will hear more from leadership of your universities in the days and weeks to come.

Commencement Update

On May 16 at 12:00 pm CST, visit for a campus virtual celebration to help congratulate our amazing Illinois graduates. President Killeen will officially confer degrees during this address. The university is planning a rescheduled in-person Commencement ceremony when it is safe to do so. Stay tuned to the University of Illinois Commencement page for additional updates.
