Curriculum and Requirements

The Master of Science in Technology Management (MSTM) consists of 40 credit hours taken over three semesters (fall, spring and summer) starting in August. The courses are drawn from a set of required core courses and technology management courses as well as electives.

The core and technology courses are taught in both eight-week and semester-long modules that complement and build upon each other within a synergistic framework. In the final semester you will have the opportunity to further synthesize the knowledge and leadership skills gained throughout the program in a practicum course, in which you will work on a real-world project in collaborative teams alongside a faculty mentor. Students will have the option to do a summer internship instead of the practicum project if they are able to secure an internship.

Core Business Courses (required)

The core foundation courses are similar to those underpinning any top business graduate program. These include fundamental courses, as well as courses in functional areas of business administration including:

  • Leadership & Teams
  • Marketing Management
  • Communication Strategy in Business

Technology Management Courses (required)

These courses represent your first step toward mastering an environment where innovation, introduction of new products, and managing intellectual property are the basis for success. This combination simply cannot be found in traditional graduate business programs. Courses include:

  • Project Management
  • Data Science and Analytics
  • Managing Intellectual Property
  • Technology Strategy

Practicum / Internship

The technology practicum is a required part of the curriculum and is usually taken during your last summer semester. It involves the practical application of theory studied previously in various courses, to solve business problems under the supervision of a faculty member. This will help increase the confidence of the students with respect to solving real-world business problems and prepare them to hit the ground running when they enter industry. Students able to secure a summer internship (only for students starting in the fall) will be allowed to substitute the internship for the technology practicum, if they desire to do so.


Students will choose a minimum of 12 credit hours (3 to 4 courses) of electives. Below is an extensive list of electives that may be available in the MSTM program. Elective courses are subject to change as each one is not available every semester.

Available Concentrations

Students may choose to pursue an optional concentration. These concentrations are built into the 40 credit hours you need to complete the degree and do not require an additional semester of study. These concentrations will appear on your transcript.

If you would like to complete more than one concentration, an extra semester of coursework would be required.

Information Technology & Control
The concentration will provide a strong foundation in the IS/IT area and can be tailored to fit the specific career needs of students.

Business Data Analytics
Companies no longer ignore analytics; they embrace its influence on decision-making.

Supply Chain Management

Product Management & Innovation*
